As we know, effective communication is fundamental for all intellectual professions, including researchers, scholars, and academics. One of the most commonly used tools, as we know, are PowerPoint slides. Whether we're giving a lecture, presenting results at a conference, or showcasing our work to a general audience, preparing and displaying effective slides is certainly a fundamental ingredient of our profession. Each of us has probably thought during a presentation: wow, these slides are well done! And in some other cases: darn, I'm losing the thread here...
But how do you make "good" slides? Are there criteria to distinguish a well-made slide from a less successful one? And are there suggestions, guidelines for creating them?
The workshop aims to provide practical guidance for creating effective slides for teaching or for presentations and to explore the tools available to better create them. It is based both on my professional experience spanning several decades and on some "general guidelines", now widespread in practice and easily found on the Internet, useful to follow for an engaging presentation.
We will look at examples of slides, and discuss their "quality" and communicative effectiveness. We will identify some basic criteria useful for understanding when a slide is of good quality, and how to apply them. We will examine the key elements of a slide (texts, graphics, images, etc.) and their format and use. Finally, we will illustrate, through an example, the use of AI tools to automatically generate slides, and discuss their effectiveness. The workshop will also consist of an interactive part, through questions and online discussions.

The workshop is targeted to yourg researchers and PhD students especially, but also to more expert colleagues who want to discuss and share their view on this topic
